The year 1650 was a critical year for silver coinage. The reverse of 1649 was not working well. Thomas Simon appears to have become involved as we see his 5 punch being used on 1650 coinage the exact same 5 as is found on the milled Blondeau pieces of 1651, 1656 and 1658. Once production started again in 1651 the Blondeau 5 disappeared and was replaced with a curved 5 which was then used thru the remainder of the decade. Both these 5’s can be seen beneath the Cromwell Broad image along with the changed beading.
